Japanese mahjong tournaments occur in some parts of the world, notably in Europe, Japan, and online. The North American scene is starting to develop a competitive environment as well. Regarding tournaments, organizers have a number of tournament systems to choose from. The system is dependent on the number of games played and the number of participants.
