鳥星雨 is a completely digital player, playing towards maximizing expected values. His playstyle is rather slow and conservative. He tends not to call as often, as he prefers the flexibility that a closed hand offers. 鳥星雨 likes to keep his defensive options open, even at the cost of a faster hand. For example, he likes to have a safe tile that he can use to push his hand during an ippatsu turn. He does not like winning cheap, open hands - even if it is the best option - and will make fun of anyone who wins using such a hand, including himself.

鳥星雨 likes to watch his favorite professional players and model his strategies off of them. In general, he spends significantly more time watching mahjong than playing it. In his free time, he looks at videos of professional play, and tries to analyze what they are doing differently from him. Some of his favorite pros include 魚谷佑美 (Uotani Yuumi), 二階戸亜紀 (Nikaido Aki), and 茅森早香 (Kayamori Sayaka). Because he is able to navigate Japanese websites, 鳥星雨 also knows quite a few non-MLeague pros, and recently has also grown quite fond of the lower-tier leagues that are broadcasted.

When he wants to actually play mahjong, he goes to a jansou in Seoul to play people that are quite honestly much better than him at the game. He makes the trip semi-consistently as time allows. Online, he plays on Tenhou whenever he feels confident about conquering his ladder anxiety, and in more casual settings (such as on the KTX), he plays on 天極牌 (Tengokuhai).
