Futoshi Watanabe (渡辺太) (July 25, 1988 - ) is a mahjong professional in Saikouisen and player of M.League team Akasaka Drivens. He is known as a player on the mahjong site Tenhou, the only one hitting the top rank (Tenhoui) three times (twice in 4-player, once in 3-player).
Tenhou
On June 26, 2014, Futoshi Watanabe became the 5th player to achieve the 4-player top rank (Tenhoui), with the ID 「太くないお」.
On June 20, 2019, his second account reached 3-player Tenhoui (the 15th in 3-player overall), the ID being 「藤井聡ふと」, and he became the first player achieving tenhoui in both 4P and 3P mahjong.
On July 5, 2020, his second account also reached 4-player Tenhoui (the 16th in 4-player overall).
Saikouisen
In February 2023, he joined Saikouisen as a mahjong professional. Because of his excellent performance in Tenhou, he started playing from the B1 league. [1]
At the end of 2023, being the 2nd of the 48th B1 league, he was upgraded and now he is playing in A2 league.
M.League
In the draft meeting of 2023-2024 season on June 30, he was selected by Akasaka Drivens. He was the team's 2nd pick in that season.
