:I think the way I've been (sorta) addressing the issue is to A. have a standardized set of mahjong lingo, and B. have parenthesis after an uncommon term that has to be in romaji, e.g. "Every hand requires at least one [[toitsu]] (pair) to win." #B can be hard to read if you do it a lot, though.

:RE: Hoverover, it's definitely possible. You could do a template for common words so you don't have to type out the code every time. For example, I could set [[Template:Ryanmen]] to <nowiki><abbr title="two consecutive tiles, waiting to complete either side of a sequence">ryanmen</abbr></nowiki>.Then, I could type <nowiki>{{ryanmen}}<nowiki> in-editor and get <abbr title="two consecutive tiles, waiting to complete either side of a sequence">ryanmen</abbr> without having to type all the code. To Do List

Media

Various media (such as TV, animated, movies, and video games) have been produced. Both lists are incomplete; though, it may be impossible to list absolutely everything, especially video games. KyuuAA (Talk:キュウ) 19:47, 27 December 2014 (UTC)

Organizations

If possible, every organization should have a page here. Of course, that's not possible for a few people to cover. It may take some notices to people to get some of their information over here. Organizations can either make their pages themselves; or we collect information from them. KyuuAA (Talk:キュウ) 18:27, 27 December 2014 (UTC)

Rule variations

Different organizations have their rules. Mini-tables have been applied to various subsections. It is now a matter of filling in those tables. Some items are already noted on the site linked at the bottom of the variations page, which is also the main source of the articles. KyuuAA (Talk:キュウ) 19:41, 27 December 2014 (UTC)

Tables have been removed since, as it is better for organizational rules to be listed in the organizational pages. Instead, all the rule variation articles are general listings. KyuuAA (Talk:キュウ) 19:43, 30 September 2015 (UTC)

Yaku combinatorics

Statistical analysis on the viability of the different yaku and yakuman based on the number of possible combinations to form each one. This information and analysis would be nice to have but not necessary. We'd prefer to have it here though. KyuuAA (Talk:キュウ) 19:45, 27 December 2014 (UTC)

Events

We need some discussion regarding the "events" part, as how long stuff should stay after they happened, and if it really need to be limited to 3 events (not really a need to have a new row for a "comment") .... Some weekends multiple events happen, and that would quickly give issues Yazphier (talk) 03:46, 7 February 2015 (UTC)

Well, for starters, here's an event list: http://arcturus.su/wiki/List_of_mahjong_events_-_2015. That's all listed Riichi EMA events so far. As for Tenhou's events, well, I don't see a calendar from them, as they frequently have something going on. With regards to "after the event", I suppose a week after said event is done? And, if that event list doesn't seem to be updated, we can just copy-paste initial text from some article. KyuuAA (Talk:キュウ) 05:27, 7 February 2015 (UTC)
Yes I made some small edits to it yesterday, and therefor I thought about it, as the ukrainian tournaments maybe should be added soon.. etc.. One week seems sensible, same with that that kind of events should start appearing a week before , or maybe even 2.. but that comes to the issue with the 3 event limit... while i see why it's there (to keep if from being clogged), i wonder if we might need rules regarding it and rather, how to handle it when more than 3 events are "happening" Yazphier (talk) 17:15, 7 February 2015 (UTC)
I went and edited the events anyway, complain if you want, but we need to figure out how to properly add more stuff on there Yazphier (talk) 07:33, 4 March 2015 (UTC)

To Do List B

Items thought of on the way home from NYC:

  • Project:Guidelines -> Policy:Guidelines (same with the other similar articles)
  • Policy on game collections
  • Strategy on wait selection
  • Haipai analysis, first discard analysis
  • Psychology behind mahjong
  • Finding your inner sanshoku

And more.

Moved to this page from my user page for general use and reduce clutter on my page. KyuuAA (Talk:キュウ) 03:45, 1 April 2019 (UTC)

Professional players

Information on the professional players, especially those in M.League are needed. Plenty of material are available, especially during a season. I cannot read Japanese. KyuuAA (Talk:キュウ) 05:27, 19 August 2021 (UTC)

Hover over text?

I have little knowledge of how to implement, but perhaps we could add translations of uncommon Japanese mahjong terms on hover over?

Example: kamicha
would create
kamicha (hover over)

which in turn would allow viewers to mouse over kamicha to see the translation. Player must not draw his next tile before kamicha discards a tile. Drawing before kamicha discards will result in a dead hand.

Not sure how well this could be done on mobile, though. --Vanillaoatlatte (talk) 16:02, 13 August 2024 (UTC)
