Arushiiaru mahjong 「アルシーアル麻雀 or アルシャル麻雀」 is a Japanese mahjong variant predating modern riichi mahjong.
Equipment and setup
All rules of modern riichi mahjong apply, with the following changes:
- All tenbou have tenth of their usual value. Only the 500 point, 100 point and 10 point sticks are used.
- All players start with 2000 points:
- Two 500 point sticks
- Nine 100 point sticks
- Ten 10 point sticks
- Two dice casts are used during the deal.
- There are no dora. Thus, no dora indicator is flipped on the dead wall.
Play
All rules of modern riichi mahjong apply, with the following changes:
- The game is played for all 4 rounds.
- There is no riichi.
- There is no iihanshibari; you can win without a yaku.
- There is no tenpai renchan or noten bappu.
- There are no honba.
Scoring
There is no bazoro. Thus, different scoring tables are used:
