The World Riichi Rules were used by the World Riichi Championship and authored by Sylvain Malbec. It combines the rulesets of the EMA and contemporary Japanese rules.
Summary
Basic rules, such as turn order, tile calls, and available yaku, are the same as any regular Japanese mahjong ruleset.

Rule list
- Kuitan (open tanyao): On
- Atozuke: On
- Oka: Off
- Uma: 「+15 / +5 / -5 / -15」. If players tie, uma is averaged (e.g. if two places tie for 1st, bot players gain +10).
- Abortive draws: None
- Chombo: -30 (as of the 2022 edition), applied after uma. Originally set to -20.
- Yakuman: Hands can score a single yakuman maximum.
- Kazoe yakuman: Off - a 13+ han hand is scored as a sanbaiman.
- Pao: On for daisangen, daisuushii, and suukantsu.
