WWYD stands for What would you discard? or, more generally, What would you do?. A WWYD is a puzzle that shows a particular mahjong situation, displaying the current hand, point standings, and discard piles, and asks which tile the viewer would discard. Many scenarios may come from actual games, while others may be simply made up. A WWYD may have multiple valid answers.
There are many types of WWYD puzzle; they can demonstrate tile efficiency, defense, push/fold judgement, point standing evaluation, and/or more game strategies. By analyzing WWYDs, players can think deeply about strategic decisions without the pressures of an actual game.
