Suushiihou 「四喜和」 are the two wind-based yakuman. Instead of the reference of "suushiihou", they are instead individually noted as Shousuushii 「小四喜」 and daisuushii 「大四喜」. Both involve groups of all four kazehai (wind tiles).

Tile diagram

The difference between the two yakuman forms is subtle. Shousuushii only need a complete group of three out of the four wind types, while pairing up the fourth type. On the other hand, daisuushii requires a complete group for all four wind types.

Development

Both yakuman require all four kazehai (wind types). Given the nature of kazehai, both yakuman are dependent on triplets. The ability to call pon makes it easier to form either yakuman; yet the options to do so are limited. Unlike daisuushii, shoususshi has greater flexibility regarding tile waits, due to the single sequence if needed. daisuushii is limited to either shanpon or tanki, while Shousuushii may also include ryanmen and kanchan as options too.

Viability

The attempt to produce either yakuman may be made possible by possession of at least pairs of the wind tiles. With this, a player is given the option to increase the chance for yakuman with the option of calling needed wind tiles. In the end, a player must have tile groups of at least three to even have a chance for completion. The possibility of either yakuman can be eliminated if enough of the wind tiles are discarded or made unavailable.

Value

Shousuushii and daisuushii both have the value of a yakuman and therefore award 32000 points to a non-dealer winner or 48000 points to a dealer winner. However, as daisuushii is a rarer yakuman, some rules allow it as a double yakuman. Here, it would be counted as such and awards 64000 points to a non-dealer winner or 96000 points to a dealer winner respectively.
