Menzenchin tsumohou 「門前清自摸和」, otherwise referred to as menzen tsumo or even simpler tsumo 「ツモ」, is a yaku obtained when a closed hand wins with a self-drawn tile - in other words, a closed hand winning from tsumo.

Formation

All closed hands can qualify for menzen tsumo; declaring riichi is not required. A hand can win even if its only yaku is menzen tsumo.

If a tile was called from another player, or if the hand was won from another player's discard, this yaku is invalidated.

Menzen tsumo with toitoi is actually the yakuman, suuankou. Otherwise, this yaku is compatible with all yaku except for houtei and chankan. Neither of those two yaku can win by self-draw.

With riichi

This yaku is typically accompanied with riichi. Of course, the use of riichi will depend on the current state of the game: current point standing, other player riichi calls, potentially threatening hands, tile waits, and tile availability. Sometimes, it can be better to stay in damaten rather than riichi.
